Thoughts

If you have been following my blog you have noticed all my salads are vegetarian and many are vegan or easily made vegan by substituting the cheese for vegan cheese or the dairy based dressing for oil based ones.

I also have lots of gluten free options.

Why you may ask am i writing  this salad blog.

Its quite simple really, not only do i have  friends and family who are vegetarian, vegan or trying to be but also it seems dairy and gluten allergies are associated with so many illnesses like IBS,  eczema, weight gain etc...

I am aware of a change in  lifestyle whereby people now want to eat foods that are fresh and organic but also low in sodium, fat and sugar but high in taste and flavors.
They want options like dairy free, gluten free and nut free

Adults and kids nowadays rarely pick a salad unless required to and even then slather them with  store bought dressings that are loaded with unpronounceable ingredients, artificial flavours, high fructose corn syrups (really is that necessary, they can't just add sugar!!!)   saturated fats etc....

So i decided to really focus on making my own lighter and all natural dressings where possible, use healthy oils( low in saturated fat) and flavours like herbs, nuts, seeds and dried fruits.

By incorporating a variety of accessible vegetables and fruits i realized i could make salads that were easy and quick to prepare and at the same time allowed people to eat vegetables and salads and grains they may not have tried or thought of using in a salad.

I know i have a long way to go but this is a learning process for me during which i have broadened my salad experiences and gotten more adventurous and hopefully will continue to do so.
So stick with me and lets make eating salads daily a positive choice we make for our health and enjoy for life !
